Membership Orientation Class
Each quarter, we offer a two-session membership orientation class led by our pastors. The class includes the background of Methodism and St. Stephen United Methodist Church, an overview of our particular beliefs and theological emphases, an orientation of our building, and an introduction to our various ministries and programs. The next class will be Sundays, August 22 and 29 from 4-6pm. Childcare is available. For more information or to register, contact the church office at sueprudhomme@ststephenumc.net or 704-364-1824.
Career Ministry Group
Our new Career Ministry for persons interested in making career transitions, assessing their career paths, or seeking employment, meets on Thursdays at Matthews UMC at 7:00pm. If you are aware of any job openings, please email cindysmith@ststephenumc.net, so we can share these opportunities. Questions? Contact Matt Cicco or Rev. Tom Schnitzlein or Cindy Smith in the church office (704-364-1824).
Conversations & Coffee with a Faith Friend
Need a coffee (or soda) break this summer? You’re invited to join a Stephen Minister at a coffee shop (the two of you select a site) for some conversations and coffee. Are you having a stressful time? Getting ready to send your college student off to school, struggling with finances, looking for a job, dealing with health issues, caring for an aging parent? Whatever your cares or concerns may be, a Stephen Minister would love to be there for you. Contact Cindy Smith in the church office (704-364-1824 x219) if you could use a cool latte and a faith friend, and she will match you up with a Stephen Minister. All ‘coffee breaks’ are ‘Dutch treats’ and confidential with no strings attached.
SMALL GROUPS and BIBLE STUDIES
Note: Many of our studies are being offered during Wednesday Night Live programming. More information about Wednesday Night Live can be found on the WNL page.

Disciple is an approach to Bible study that emphasizes disciplined reading of Scripture. Short- and long-term classes will be offered. Each week, participants watch a video presentation by a biblical scholar, then join in study and discussion of the scripture of the week. Each participant makes a commitment to daily preparation, weekly attendance, and full participation in the group study sessions. Disciple aims at transformation, not just information.
Sign-ups begin August 8, and classes will start after Labor Day.
Women’s Book Study
Our Women’s Book Study will begin on Monday, September 13 and will meet at 10:30am on Mondays through Thanksgiving. Our new study is Beth Moore’s new book, So Long Insecurity. A sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex or you can contact Cindy Smith by e-mail. We’ll learn, we’ll laugh, we’ll grow in faith. Come join us!
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
We currently have twelve adult Sunday school classes which meet on Sundays at 9:45am. Each class is unique and chooses their own curriculum or topics. Classes may be taught be class members, staff, outside resource persons, or with the aid of videos.
Click here for a list of our Adult Sunday School classes, with descriptions, contact persons, and room numbers.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
St. Stephen sponsors a local unit with 2 women's circles which meet monthly at various times to provide opportunities for learning and participation in service projects. (Click for more information).
SENIOR ADULTS
SAINTS ALIVE! is generally for adults ages 60 and up. The group meets monthly on the third Tuesday for a fellowship meal in the Fireside Room (except summer) and take occasional trips. Two examples of their one-day trips were to Old Salem and Amtrak to the North Carolina State Fair. Speakers included health awareness, Mint Museum of Art and ballroom dancing. This is a lively group and open to new members at any meeting. For more information, contact Sonia Walker

Our Mission
The mission of St. Stephen United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We welcome guests into our church, share with them the good news of Jesus Christ, prepare people for ministry, and send forth persons into mission in the world.
