Children's Church
Children's Church is special time on Sundays designed for children offering a creative, fun and interactive opportunity to learn about worship. Participating children will worship with their families and then leave the service to go to Children’s Church after the “Children’s Time.”
Our first ten weeks will feature: “VeggieTales’ Worship! Getting to Know God.”
Who can participate? Children’s Church is volunteer-led and designed for TK & Kindergarten through Second Grade and for other ages with special needs. (Nursery is available for infants through age 4.)
When is it? Every Sunday during the 10:50 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. worship services. No Children’s Church on the first Sunday of the month so families can take communion together. Please fill out and return a Children’s Church registration form prior to the 14th. (Download the registration form here or pick one up in the church office.)
Where do we go? Our Children’s Church leader will escort the children from worship to the Fireside Room. Parents, please pick up your children after worship at Fireside.
Why do we offer this? Children’s Church is designed to enhance your child’s worship experience by providing opportunities to learn more about worship and grow in faith.
How can I help? If you can read a Bible story, lead a game, a song, or an art activity, help with refreshments or simply offer helping hands, please volunteer to join us!
Questions? Contact Kathryn DeFriese or Cindy Smith, Minister of Christian Education, 704/364-1824, ext. 210 or cindysmith@ststephenumc.net

Children in Worship at St. Stephen United Methodist Church
Why are children included in our worship services?
- Worship is a gathering of the family of God.
- Children are a part of the family of God.
Why do children need worship?
- Children included in worship at a young age absorb and internalize the sights, sounds, and feel of worship.
- Through attending worship, children grow to appreciate and understand the importance of worship in their lives.
Helping your child get the most out of worship
- Sit close to the front. Children will pay attention if they can see what is going on.
- Look over the bulletin with your child before the service starts. Point out any special parts of the service (communion, baptism, new members joining…).
- Let your child place the offering in the collection plate.
- Let your child sign their name in the attendance pad or sign for the whole family.
- Introduce your child to those around you during the greeting time.
- Help your child memorize the Lord's Prayer.
- Help your child bookmark the songs in the hymnal before the service starts.
- Discuss the service with your child on the way home or during lunch.
