Sunday School

Sunday school classes are offered on Sunday mornings at 10:10am for children ages 3 through 5th grade. The Children’s Ministry focuses on three elements in Sunday school: scripture (learning the stories of the Bible and how they apply to our lives), prayer, and fellowship. Nursery is provided for children 2 and under during the Sunday school hour. For more information about our Sunday school classes, from children to adults, please see the Children's Sunday School page.

Music Opportunities

Music opportunities include Wednesday evening choirs for children from age three through 5th grade (3s to 1st grade is 5:30-6pm; 2nd-5th grade is 5:15-6pm) and chimes for 3rd-5th graders (6:30-7pm).

In the summer, St. Stephen’s children’s choir camp (for rising 1st-6th graders) includes art and recreation,  singing and movement as we prepare and perform a musical to present in Sunday worship. Contact the church office for more details.

Our Preschool program is one of the best in North Carolina, and serves infants to transitional kindergarten (TK). This ministry cares for children in a loving yet challenging environment. Church members and non-members are welcome in the preschool program. See our Preschool page for more information.

Cub Scout Pack 118

Scouts are a vital part of our congregation, and our scout programs are among the strongest in Mecklenburg County. Boys in 1st through 5th grades are invited to join us the first three Tuesdays of each month during the school year at 6:30PM.

Club 45

Club 45 is our pre-teen youth group for fourth and fifth graders that meets twice a month, generally on Sunday evenings from 5-7pm. On regular Sundays, we eat dinner together, have a program, and play games. On these Sundays, please bring $5 for dinner. We also do mission projects throughout the year and have several fun fellowship outings.

Vacation Bible School

Children ages 3 – 5th grade are invited to our annual VBS, held one week in the summer (Monday-Friday, 9am-noon). As part of VBS, our 4th and 5th graders do hands-on mission projects such as sorting food at Loaves and Fishes, cleaning up the grounds around the church, working at the Matthews Help Center, preparing food for the homeless, and delivering Friendship Trays. VBS registration begins in May.

Service Projects

Our children participate in a number of service projects throughout the year, such as collecting books and school supplies for Greenway Park Elementary, collecting food for the Matthews Help Center, helping with Room in the Inn, raising money for hunger and walking in a “Mini” Crop Walk, packaging food for Stop Hunger Now, visiting nursing homes, and making cards for homebound members.

Other Children’s Opportunities

Children’s programs occur throughout the year, including an Easter egg hunt, a family fall festival, Bingo night, bike day, Advent festival, and Christmas pageant.
