Church Treasure Sale to benefit missions
Saturday, May 1, 2010

The 2009 sale raised $8,317 and all of the money was given to further our mission work. The missions committee has thoughtfully disbursed the funds as follows: Matthews Habitat for Humanity: $4,000; Friendship Trays: $800; Salvation Army Center of Hope: $1,100; Shepherd’s Center: $500; and United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR): $1,600. Save your treasures for next year’s sale — collections start in March 2010!

To date, our annual Treasure Sale has raised over $17,000 for local missions. Our 2010 goal is to raise at least $10,000 and extend the reach of mission work at St. Stephen UMC. This is a time of great need in our community and abroad.

What is a Treasure Sale? Church members and friends donate furniture and household items to the church. We collect them in PODS storage units in March and April (up until the day before the sale). Volunteers 'set up shop' in the gym and sell the items, similar to a (very organized) garage/yard sale. All proceeds go to the church (this is not a consignment sale).

What can you do? Start cleaning out and collecting things you no longer need or want! Bring them to the church at the designated drop-off times (see next section). Tax receipts will be provided for donations. Pickup service for large or heavy items is available on weekends by request. We bring all of the donated items in the church for one gigantic 'yard' sale. We had a HUGE response last year: donations, volunteers and customers and it was a lot of FUN!!

When can you drop off your items? The PODS are already here and located in the back parking lot by the gym. They will be open on Saturdays from 10am-noon and Sundays from 11am-2pm.

This sale takes many volunteers and we have a variety of options for you to use your gifts for service:

    • Donation Collections (intake collections, price, sort)
    • Packing Collections in PODS
    • Put out road signs (approx 12)
    • Setup Gym – Moving tables into gym, moving donations from PODS to tables
    • Setup Sale – unpack boxes of donations in organized areas (i.e. Kids, kitchen, garden, electronics, books…)
    • Cashiers
    • Floaters
    • Carry out to Car Service
    • Clean up crew – Packup unsold items, load into Crisis Assistance Truck, return tables to their rooms, pickup grounds and gym, vacuum
    • Take down road signs

Sale Coordinators: Susi Robinson, Carolyn Maxey and Bertha Walker.
