How Can Christians Confront the Broken Systems of Our World? (Influencers)
This Sunday, we concludes our summer worship series: Influencers. We’ve been exploring several stories from the Bible of people whose enduring faith and perseverance inspired generations. From modern-day YouTube influencers to biblical heroes, learn how God calls each of us to be influencers for His kingdom.
Associate Pastor Jesse Enniss helps us close out this series by considering a difficult passage from the Book of Amos. Together, we discover how God calls ordinary people to speak truth to power and advocate for the vulnerable. In the midst of so many modern challenges, how are Christians called to make an influence on the life of the world today and help heal broken systems? Amos’ words might make us uncomfortable, but this isn’t about comfort — it’s about being faithful.
Sermon Reflections:
- Amos was a simple shepherd who received God’s call. How might God be calling you to speak truth or take action in your ordinary circumstances and profession?
- There are many broken systems in our society today (food, healthcare, justice, etc.). Which system affects you most directly, and how might you begin to engage with it from a kingdom perspective?
- Speaking out against injustice is not always comfortable, but it is influential. What area of your life is God challenging you to move from comfort to faithfulness?
- Pastor Jesse reminds us that our actions must “come from God, and God alone” through prayer, Bible study, and worship. How strong is your spiritual foundation for the influence God is calling you to have?
- Where do you feel overwhelmed by the size of problems, and how can you trust in God’s strength rather than your own?
- What does it practically look like in your daily life to “build the kingdom of God” while “forsaking the systems of this world”? What specific changes might this require?
