Can One Person Really Change the World? Elijah Did. (Influencers)
This Sunday, we continue our new worship series: Influencers. Weβre exploring several stories from the Bible of people whose enduring faith and perseverance inspired generations. From modern-day YouTube influencers to biblical heroes, learn how God calls each of us to be influencers for His kingdom.
Today, we revisit the incredible story of Elijah, the boldest prophet in the Old Testament. Elijah’s story reveals his travels through doubt, victory, and transformation, and teaches us how God uses imperfect people to accomplish extraordinary things.
Sermon Reflections:
- Elisha asked for a “double portion” of Elijah’s spirit. What would it look like for you to be completely “sold out” to God in your current circumstances? What might need to change in your life?
- Elijah stood alone against 850 pagan priests. Describe a situation where you’ve had to stand for your faith or values against popular opinion or peer pressure. How did God provide strength, and what did you learn from that experience?
- During the seven-year drought, God provided for Elijah through ravens and a widow’s never-ending flour and oil. How have you experienced God’s provision during your own “drought seasons”? What does this teach you about trusting God’s timing?
- Even after his great victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah became discouraged and fled. Why do you think spiritual victories can sometimes be followed by periods of doubt or fear? How can we prepare for these emotional valleys?
- We’re reminded that we don’t need “dozens of likes or retweets” to make a difference. What “simple acts of kindness” has God placed within your reach? How might your everyday influence impact someone’s world?
- Despite his doubts and struggles, God honored Elijah and used him powerfully. How does this encourage you in your own spiritual journey? What does it mean that “God loves us and uses us, sometimes in unexpected ways”?
