Making a Difference in Our Community

Community Missions

Service and community are at the core of St. Stephen's identity as we strive to be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus Christ — in our neighborhood, in Charlotte, and in the world.

St. Stephen regularly partners with a variety of community organizations and nonprofits in the Charlotte area and beyond. We provide direct volunteer support, meals, supplies, and financial assistance.

Many of our missions groups are active year-round, while others are seasonal.

Faith in Action: Seasonal Projects

Seasonal Missions

A sampling of seasonal service opportunities with a variety of commitment levels.

St. Stephen youth embark on a week-long summer mission trip each year, assisting in major home repair for people in the Appalachians.

Each year, St. Stephen members and friends dedicate a full weekend to community service throughout the Charlotte area.

St. Stephen regularly partners with Habitat for Humanity offering support and people-power for building local homes.

St. Stephen is a host for Roof Above’s Room in the Inn program. Now in our 27th season, the church opens its facilities every Friday night during December 1 – March 31 to provide shelter and food for the homeless during the winter months. Volunteers pick up assigned guests from Roof Above, offer cots and a warm safe place to sleep in the Fireside Room with volunteer hosts, serve two meals (dinner and breakfast), provide a bag lunch to go, and return guests the following morning. Last year, St. Stephen provided over 100 available beds with the help of 300+ volunteers.

The St. Stephen Treasure Sale, hosted annually usually each June, is one of Charlotte’s largest church-sponsored rummage sales for charity. Since 2008, the Treasure Sale has raised more than $175,000 for a variety of local, national, and global charities. The two-day event is the culmination of hundreds of donated hours by volunteers, St. Stephen members, and community members.

Each Christmas Eve, St. Stephen members and guests collect a special community offering. Thousands of dollars are collected each year for a variety of beneficiaries.
