Distorted: Understanding Prayer
Ken Curtis   -

We begin a new worship series: “Distorted: Misunderstood Passages of Scripture.” In today’s message from Senior Pastor Ken Curtis, we explore John 15:7 and Matthew 21:21-22 and try to understand what prayer means.

Sermon Reflections:

  1. What is your understanding of the purpose of prayer? Did the sermon confirm your understanding? Broaden it? Provide context? How?
  2. Reflect on a time when you prayed earnestly for something but didn’t receive the outcome you expected. How did you feel in that moment? How do you feel about it now?
  3. Pastor Ken suggests that prayer can lead us to action. Can you recall a time when your prayer for someone or something led you to take action?
  4. How do you reconcile the idea of unanswered prayers with the your belief in a loving and caring God? Can you imagine instances — or have you had experiences — where an unanswered prayer was the right answer all along?
  5. Think about the analogy of prayer being like a conversation with God, making to seeking comfort in a parents’ embrace when you are hurt. Does this resonate with your own experiences of prayer?
