Finding Your True Identity in Christ (Sort of Christian)
Ken Curtis   -

In this final message of our Sort of Christian series, Pastor Ken explores what it means to fully embrace our true identity in Christ. Are we letting our careers, relationships, past failures, or other people’s opinions shape who we are? Or are we claiming our God-given identity as chosen, holy, blameless, and beloved? Drawing from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we discover how to navigate the tension between being “in Christ” and “in the world.” This message will encourage you to stand up and claim who you really are according to God, not the voices of doubt, shame, or cultural pressure.

Sermon Reflections:

  • If you couldn’t write your name on a name tag but had to use words that identify you, what would you write? How do these identifiers compare to your identity in Christ?
  • What voices in your life compete with God’s voice in defining who you are? How can you recognize and respond to these competing identities?
  • How does understanding that God chose you before the foundation of the world change your perspective on self-worth and purpose?
  • Like the Ephesians who lived “in Christ” but also “in Ephesus,” we live in tension between our spiritual identity and cultural context. How do you navigate this tension in your daily life?
  • If you’ve been carrying blame or shame from past mistakes or others’ words, how does the truth that you are “blameless in His sight” speak to your situation?
  • The sermon ended with declarations of who we are in Christ. Which of these truths (loved, chosen, holy, blameless, redeemed) do you find hardest to believe about yourself, and why?
