History’s Forgotten Influencer: Pilate’s Wife
Ken Curtis   -

This Sunday, we continue our new worship series: Influencers. We’ll explore several stories from the Bible of people whose enduring faith and perseverance inspired generations. From modern-day YouTube influencers to biblical heroes, learn how God calls each of us to be influencers for His kingdom.

Today, we explore the often overlooked story of Pilate’s wife — a woman unnamed in the Bible who became one of history’s most unlikely influencers. Using her as an example, we learn how influencers speak up even when it’s dangerous, how they are moved by conviction not by comfort, and how small actions can have lasting impact. From Malala’s courage to Rosa Parks’ stand, discover how ordinary people become extraordinary influencers when they choose to act on their convictions. Your voice matters more than you think.

Sermon Reflections:

  • Pilate’s wife spoke up despite cultural expectations for women to remain silent in political matters. What situations in your life require you to speak truth even when it feels risky or uncomfortable?
  • Pilate’s wife also acted on a troubling dream about Jesus’ innocence. How do you discern when God might be stirring your heart to take action, even through unexpected means?
  • We should be “moved by conviction, not comfort.” What convictions has God placed in your heart that might be calling you out of your comfort zone to make a difference?
  • Pilate’s wife didn’t change the outcome: Jesus was still crucified. How do you maintain faithfulness when your efforts don’t produce the immediate results you hoped for?
  • Influence isn’t always immediate or obvious, like the camp experience that shaped the Pastor Ken years later. Who in your past might have influenced you in ways you’re only now recognizing? Who might you be influencing without realizing it?
  • Pilate’s wife was the only person in the passion narrative to call Jesus innocent before His crucifixion. When have you found yourself standing alone for what’s right? How did that experience shape your faith?
