From June 1 through July 6, the class will study The Difficult Words of Jesus of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine. Sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine shows how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation. Each class can stand alone.

June 8 – The class will prepare UMCOR hygiene kits as our mission project.
For the remainder of June, we will view and discuss “The Chosen,” season 5, using the video and study book. “The Chosen” is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus Christ, seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Even though each session builds on the ones before, the videos give a synopsis of what has happened.
July 6 – The class will not meet.
Unity
Room 34
In June we begin a new book, How (Not) to Read the Bible: Making Sense of the Anti-women, Anti-science, Pro-violence, Pro-slavery and Other Crazy-Sounding Parts of Scripture by Dan Kimball. Today some people argue the Bible is outdated and harmful. Bestselling author Dan Kimball guides you step-by-step in how to tackle many of the real questions that people wrestle with when reading the Bible and how to make sense of many of the more difficult and disturbing Bible passages. Series concludes July 6.
